Vitamine E

La vitamine E est une vitamine soluble comprenant un groupe de huit composés : quatre tocophérols et quatre tocotriénols. On attribue le plus souvent l'activité de la vitamine E au d-alpha-tocophérol, cependant, des recherches montrent que les bêta, gamma et delta-tocophérols exercent également une activité biologique significative dans l'organisme. Le gamma-tocophérol, en particulier, possède des propriétés anti-inflammatoires et antioxydantes supérieures.

Vitamine mixte E de Natural Factors renferme du d-alpha-tocophérol, ainsi que des bêta, gamma et delta-tocophérols. Le d-alpha-tocophérol, le plus puissant des tocophérols, est naturel et plus biodisponible que son pendant synthétique, le dl-alpha-tocophérol. Un complexe de tocophérols procure des effets anti-inflammatoires et antioxydants supérieurs à ceux d'un seul tocophérol.

La vitamine E est principalement connue pour sa puissante action antioxydante. Elle aide à protéger les membranes cellulaires contre les dommages causés par les radicaux libres et prévient l'oxydation du (« mauvais ») cholestérol LDL. Le cholestérol LDL oxydé contribue au développement de l'athérosclérose, laquelle inhibe la circulation normale du sang oxygéné vers les tissus.

La vitamine E est également nécessaire pour l'entretien structural et fonctionnel du muscle cardiaque et des muscles squelettiques et lisses.
