Saffron may not be the first herb that comes to mind when you think of mood-balancing supplements. Yet it’s one of the most rigorously researched. Just beware: not all saffron on the market is genuine.

Saffron, often referred to as “botanical gold,” is frequently adulterated with inexpensive plants, minerals, or artificial substances because of its costly nature. That’s why Natural Factors uses only Affron® saffron extract, a 100% pure source of standardized saffron extract that has been DNA certified for authenticity and has undergone study in multiple clinical trials.

  • Helps support mood balance in adults and youth 12 years and older
  • Affron is clinically shown to relieve restlessness and nervousness
  • Clinically shown to reduce the symptoms of perceived stress, such as fatigue, weariness, and irritability.
  • Clinically proven to help improve sleep quality
  • Clinically shown to help relieve symptoms associated with perimenopause

Pretty good stuff!

"I would say it's very good-not just good. But not quite great either. I bought Saffron from Natural Factors hoping it would help for my anxiety and depression. I have been using Saffron for some months now. The positive effects came very quickly. I have periodic insomnia, but with one 28 mg capsule I fell asleep very quickly the very first night I took it. (Not that I bought it to help me with insomnia. ) The only thing is, when taking it at night, I would consistently wake up in the middle of the night. It took a while of experimenting as to what time is best for me to take it. Now I've been taking it in the morning. It noticeably lifts my depression and makes me calmer. I am getting far fewer anxiety attacks, and when I do get them, they're of much shorter duration. That alone is reason enough to keep taking it. There are a few reasons, I didn't give it 5 starts, but these reasons may not apply to everyone. For one thing it makes me constipated. Saffron works on Serotonin, and some people get constipated on SSRI drugs. But not everyone. The SSRIs that I tried were so constipating, I had to stop taking them. But Saffron seems much gentler and I easily solve the problem with fruit juice. Also, the positive effects are inconsistent with me. Some days more and some days less. But that could be because I'm no so careful to take it at the same time every day. I also want to mention that I recently cut my finger and noticed that my blood is thinner. I am not on any blood thinner. I believe I read that Saffron can thin blood. Just something to check out, especially if you're already on blood thinner. I'm not saying this is bad. Blood thinner is actually good for some people. I certainly recommend trying this product. I didn't give it 5 stars because I find the amount it helps me is inconsistent. Sometimes quite a bit, and sometimes not so much. But that could be because I have not been so careful to take it at the same time every day. So maybe that's my fault"
