Quercetin
Sophora japonica

Nature’s Powerful Antioxidant
-
First identified by Albert Szent-Györgyi, the Nobel prize-winning discoverer of vitamin C, quercetin is often referred to somewhat mysteriously as a “vitamin-like” molecule. Quercetin is actually a bioflavonoid, a distinguished member of a large family of phytonutrients with biological activity in the human body.
-
Quercetin can be found in small amounts in many fruits, vegetables, and herbs, such as apples, onions, and cilantro. One of the richest food sources of quercetin is capers, the pickled flower buds of the caperberry plant.
Natural Factors Quercetin supplements are made from the flower bud of Sophora japonica, the Japanese pagoda tree.

Health Benefits
Quercetin’s ability to protect blood vessels is likely one of the main beneficial aspects of the famously heart-healthy Mediterranean diet, which is abundant in quercetin-rich foods.
Powerful antioxidant action makes quercetin an exceptional free radical scavenger. Since oxidative damage is linked to so many health concerns, antioxidants such as quercetin should be considered foundational nutrients for health resilience.
Keep quercetin in mind for warding off the sniffles as it also helps support healthy sinus, respiratory, and immune system function.
