Posologie recommandée (adultes) : La SAMe devrait toujours être prise à jeun. Elle doit être prise pendant au moins 2 semaines pour que ses effets soient remarqués. Pour réguler l’humeur : 1 à 4 comprimés 2 fois par jour (jusqu’à 8 comprimés par jour) ou suivre les recommandations d’un praticien de la santé. Consulter un praticien de la santé pour une utilisation au-delà de 6 semaines. Pour la douleur causée par l’arthrose : 2 comprimés 3 fois par jour, sans dépasser 6 comprimés par jour, ou suivre les recommandations d’un praticien de la santé. Consulter un praticien de la santé pour une utilisation au-delà de 12 semaines.

Consulter un praticien de la santé avant de prendre de la SAMe si vous prenez des antidépresseurs, des médicaments hépatotoxiques ou des inhibiteurs de la monoamine oxydase (MAO). La SAMe est déconseillée aux enfants. Ne pas utiliser si vous êtes enceinte, si vous allaitez ou si vous souffrez de trouble bipolaire (maladie maniaco-dépressive). Ne pas en prendre la nuit, car la SAMe peut causer de l’anxiété, de l’agitation et de l’insomnie. Effets secondaires possibles : légers malaises gastrointestinaux (p. ex., douleurs gastriques, nausées, diarrhée, flatulences), anxiété, hyperactivité musculaire, insomnie et hypomanie. Lorsque ces effets secondaires se manifestent, ils s’estompent souvent avec le temps ou disparaissent avec des doses plus faibles ou à l’arrêt du traitement. Conserver hors de la portée des enfants.
